Nightwater News Timeline

Nightwater’s public life is short. This page is a chronology of official or clearly dated beats. For how to play, use guides. For the unlock clock, use release date.

January 2026 — announcement

Studio Ashty posted the Steam page and the official announcement trailer (also mirrored by IGN and GameTrailers). Pitch: sandbox resource management, automate factory work, progress through ages toward the Industrial era, PC Steam. Features that still define the wiki: void-sea island, 20+ resources, 60+ buildings, five minigames, optional story, four endings, free deconstruct.

Developer: Amar Civic, Studio Ashty, Sarajevo. First commercial project.

Early March 2026 — public playtest

First public Steam playtest. Focus: core loop and pacing. Content: first two biomes, Dark Thicket, 60–90 minutes to the then-end, ~4 hours to explore. Civic posted on Reddit describing Nightwater as inspired by Forager / Cauldron and early Satisfactory.

9 March 2026 — playtest ends

Thank-you post plus a change list: bug fixes, QoL, better controller support, boxes with inputs and outputs, clearer mechanics, improved pacing, cheaper permanent upgrades. Demo estimated 1–2 months out. Discord invited for questions.

30 April – 8 May 2026 — demo

Demo dated, then launched. Full Woods, full Dark Thicket, Mountains peek. Details on demo news.

15–22 June 2026 — Steam Next Fest

Demo featured. Small localization/typo update. Same week: Irox Games (Munich independent) announced as publisher alongside Studio Ashty. Civic’s message: more support and reach for automation / incremental / open-world-exploring players; development path unchanged.

2 September 2026 — dated launch

Steam news: Nightwater launches 18 September 2026 at 08:00 PDT (and the other time zones listed on the release date page). Wishlist ping requested.

Still unknown (do not invent)

  • Final price in every region
  • Steam Deck Verified status
  • Names of minigames 2–5
  • Full resource table for 20+ nodes
  • Whether demo saves convert
  • Console ports
  • Post-launch DLC

When those exist, they will be dated here instead of whispered into items.

Press and creator context

Coverage from Pillow Fort, GamingOnLinux, gamebiz, and large YouTube playthroughs (DangerouslyFunny, Z1 Gaming, and others) is how most people found the demo. Those videos are useful and also outdated the moment a pipe cost changes. Prefer Steam news plus this timeline when they fight.

How we will handle launch week

If 18 September slips, this page should say so in the first paragraph. If it does not slip, the next entries should be patch 1.0.1 notes, not more trailer recaps. Nightwater is single-player; there will not be a “Season 2 roadmap” unless Studio Ashty writes one.

Follow along on links. Play the demo while you wait. Read the review if you want an opinionated filter on this whole timeline.

How this wiki will date the next posts

A Steam news item about a crash in Dark Thicket belongs on this timeline and on minigames. A Steam news item about a pipe refund bug belongs on automation and buildings. A Steam news item that only says “wishlist” belongs on release date. We will not merge those three into one vague “Nightwater update” blob. Incremental games hide the important sentence in the third bullet. Read that bullet. Then play The Woods again if the cost of gears moved.

Late summer 2026 — community questions, no new Steam news

After Next Fest, official Steam news went quiet until the 2 September dated launch post. Forum threads asked whether anything had shipped since June, whether the demo was limited-time, and whether Discord invites were dead. Facts we can stand on: the store still listed a demo download next to the 18 September 2026 unlock; Irox Games remains publisher; no extra dated patch notes appeared in the hub we checked. Player-side issues (Linux demo close, pad plus keyboard) belong on troubleshooting, not on a fake patch list.
