Nightwater Demo News

This is the news page for the demo, not the how-to. For what to do in The Woods, use the demo guide and Getting Started. For the dated 1.0 morning, use release date.

30 April 2026 — date locked

Studio Ashty scheduled the demo for 8 May 2026. Promised contents:

  • First area The Woods with all milestone items and unlocks
  • First minigame Dark Thicket with full progression and unlocks
  • Sneak peek at Mountains biome and Mountains minigame, milestone items not unlockable

Localization note from the earlier playtest wrap-up: Japanese, Chinese, Russian, and Korean were called out as demo languages alongside the rest of the Steam set. This wiki itself is English, French, German, and Spanish only.

8 May 2026 — demo live

The demo went live. Official length: about one hour to the end of available content, around four hours to explore everything. Amar Civic noted it was his first commercial project and asked people to play and talk back. A feedback form sat next to the Discord link.

8 June 2026 — Next Fest warning

Nightwater was announced for Steam Next Fest: 15–22 June 2026. A small demo update was promised beforehand: typo corrections and localization/translation fixes. If you last played on 8 May, update before you file a spelling bug.

15 June 2026 — Next Fest + publisher

During Next Fest, Studio Ashty also announced that Irox Games (Munich) is publishing Nightwater. Development “continues exactly as planned”; the partnership is reach, not a reboot. See news timeline.

What the demo is for, officially

The March playtest existed to validate the core loop and pacing: gather, craft, unlock tools, take the first steps into automation. The demo is that test with extra polish, a longer public window, and a Mountains teaser. It is not a vertical slice of the Industrial Era.

If you are writing feedback, the useful kind is still: pipes, boxes without sockets, controller binds, localization, milestone bars that will not complete. “Needs more biomes” is already the 18 September 2026 job.

Demo versus playtest

The first public playtest ended 9 March 2026. It offered the first two biomes and Dark Thicket, 60–90 minutes to the then-end, ~4 hours to vacuum. Follow-up promises: bug fixes, QoL, better controller support, inputs and outputs on all boxes, clearer mechanics, improved pacing, cheaper permanent upgrades. Assume the May demo includes that list unless a patch note says a item slipped.

Do not mix clips. A March video can show two biomes more freely than the May demo’s locked Mountains milestones.

After Next Fest

The demo remained the public build through summer toward the dated launch. There is no second demo announced in the posts we used. Install it from Steam via links, check system requirements, and play until you either wishlist or walk away.

What to do this week

If you have not installed the demo, do that before you argue about Industrial Era machines that are not in the build. Wishlist the full game so Steam can ping you on 18 September 2026. Skim controls if a gamepad feels drunk, then place one wood line from the automation guide. That is the entire pre-launch homework: confirm the loop, file real bugs, and stop asking Discord whether Mountains milestones are broken. They are locked on purpose.
